Based on a great photo by Berndt Blumhardt (via Wikipedia under the Creative Commons licence), I painted this red fox. We have resident foxes who use our garden as a thoroughfare to my neighbours’ diner. The neighbours feed all the local wildlife, from birds to badgers. Unsurprisingly, the foxes have become pretty unfazed by the appearance of human beings. As I was washing up the other evening, a long-legged fox jumped onto the low wall a few feet from the kitchen window. We eyeballed one another for a considerable time, until he realised that no takeaway was on offer, and he took his leave unceremoniously.
