The Kirkstile Inn

We’ve been away for a few days. And I mean away. Not the faintest chance of internet access or mobile phone signal. Where we were staying is a place we first stayed in a mere 25 years ago. There is the pub (which dates back to the 16th century), the church and a lake (Loweswater). That’s it really.

So we have walked a fair few miles, eaten a large amount of lovely food and seen a whole lot of local birdlife (some of which I now have to identify in my various reference books). We got away with dry weather for walking (never guaranteed in the Lake District). However, last night a major storm blew up, and I was very pleased to be inside in the warm and dry. The pub used to house its own micro brewery until a couple of years ago, producing award-winning bitter and pale ale. The brewery outgrew its space, and moved to new premises nearby. Our room was the converted brewery. The Husband therefore felt it would have been rude not to sample the various beers.
