Clown

We get a lot of these plump wood pigeons in the garden. They always seem such clownish birds to me, with their rather startled expression and overstuffed appearance. A group of them gather regularly, weighing down the branches with their collective bulk. I could be wrong, but they don’t seem to be the sharpest tools in the box. However, they do have the most delicate and beautiful colours in their feathers.

  1. Lovely painting, Sue – but I have to say they’re not my favourite bird. They wake me up in the morning with their annoyingly repetitive coo-ing and they polish off my coriander faster than I can shoo them away! The other little birds in my tiny garden – blue-tits, long-tailed tits, blackbirds, a robin and a wren – don’t appreciate their visits either.
