I bought a bunch of these heart-stoppingly red peonies on Saturday and tried to take some photos outside in the sun. Somehow, the light didn’t do the buds justice. So I tried again just now on a cloudy day with the full-blown, dinner-plate sized flowers against white card. I cannot stop looking at this beautiful colour and the flower shapes and wondering how on earth to capture them in paint.
I’m reminded of the quote by Marc Chagall:
Art is the increasing effort to compete with the beauty of flowers – and never succeeding.
