Flourishing

I love this quote from the film ‘You’ve got mail’ written and directed by Nora Ephron. Is this a female thing? Do men like stationery supplies just as much as women seem to? It would actually make my day to have a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils delivered to my door. Especially today, as I’m doing plenty of practice on the fancy flourishes.

  1. I just love this. When I was a child (and still now) I loved stopping at the stationery store. My Mom was an artist, too, and had a wonderful set of colored pencils I aspired to. I had a small set, and the larger set was just so full of possibilities. Plus I loved the way the pencils smelled!

    • I think you’ve hit the nail on the head – it is the fact that the pencils are ‘so full of possibilities’ that draw us (excuse the pun) to them. And I agree with you, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils is just as attractive as the look of them and whisks me straight back to childhood.
